Chase Briscoe gets his sixth win of the season at Dover International Speedway

The NASCAR Xfinity Series concluded its doubleheader weekend Sunday afternoon from the Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway. The top fifteen positions were inverted with Brett Moffitt on the pole, and next to him was Brandon Brown. Justin Allgaier, the winner of yesterday’s race, started fifteenth. Five drivers had to go to the rear of the field Vinnie Miller, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Alex Labbe (unapproved rear adjustments), Daniel Hemric (driver change), and Chase Briscoe (backup car). Anthony Alfredo was on pit road with power steering issues as the field took to the track, he would start at the rear of the field, just getting out before the green flag.

In the first five laps of the race, Justin Allgaier moved his way up the field, going from fifteenth to sixth. On the eleventh lap, Vinnie Miller made contact with Jeffrey Earnhardt and then hit the wall to bring out the first caution of the afternoon. Vinnie Miller’s day was done, and HE would finish in last place. During the caution, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Timmy Hill, and three other drivers pitted while everyone else stayed out. Moffitt would lead the field back to green on the sixteenth lap.

The restart only lasted five laps before the competition caution came out on lap 21. During the caution, Brandon Brown pitted and took only two left-side tires while Daniel Hemric, Josh Williams, and five other drivers pitted for four tires. Harrison Burton had to restart in the rear of the field after going over the choose cone sign. Moffitt would once again lead the field back to green on lap 25. Ross Chastain would take the lead from Moffitt from the inside lane and would lead 23 laps to win stage one.

During the caution, Chastain brought the field down pit road. Brandon Brown would win the race off of pit road after changing two right-side tires while everyone else took four tires. Riley Herbst had to restart at the tail end of the field for an uncontrolled tire. Brandon Brown would choose the outside while Justin Allgaier went to the inside lane for the start of stage two on lap 53. Eleven laps into the restart, Jeffrey Earnhardt got into the wall at turn two after making contact with Riley Herbst to bring out the fourth caution of the day.

During the caution, Jeremy Clements, BJ McLeod, Kody Vanderwal, and Chad Finchum were the only drivers to come to pit road. Allgaier would choose the outside lane while Ross Chastain chose the inside lane as the race resumed on lap 70. A lap later, Chase Briscoe shot past Allgaier from the outside lane off of turn four to take the lead after starting at the rear of the field. Briscoe would go on to win stage two, his fifth stage win of the season. Chad Finchum would get the free pass.

All of the lead lap cars would come to pit road during the caution for four tires and fuel. Chase Briscoe would win the race off of pit road. Daniel Hemric and Brandon Jones made contact on pit road. Justin Allgaier had a slow stop as he would have to restart at the rear of the field for an uncontrolled tire penalty. Briscoe would choose the outside lane while Austin Cindric went to the inside lane as the final stage was underway at lap 98.

Briscoe began lapping the field as Justin Haley, who was running 13th, was the latest car to go a lap down. Briscoe was dealing with heavy traffic, which allowed Ross Chastain to close in on him with 49 laps to go. The last cycle of green-flag pit stops was underway on lap 162 with Daniel Hemric, and Harrison Burton the first go come in. Burton missed the commitment line and received a violation and had to serve a drive-through penalty. Briscoe and Austin Cindric would come to pit road a lap later. Ross Chastain would lead a lap before pitting. Stefan Parsons was coming in for his scheduled stop when he spun his car entering pit road. Parsons was able to back up his car and go to his pit box.

Noah Gragson and Michael Annett were the last cars to pit. Gragson would come in on lap 183, leaving Annett as the last car not to pit. Annett would come to pit road on lap 188 for two tires giving the lead back to Chase Briscoe. Briscoe would lead the last 13 laps to take race two of the Drydene 200 by 2.463 seconds over Ross Chastain, who finished in second place. For Briscoe, this was his sixth win of the season.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Austin Cindric third, Brandon Jones fourth, Daniel Hemric fifth, Noah Gragson sixth, Justin Allgaier seventh, Michael Annett eighth, Riley Herbst ninth, and Brett Moffitt tenth. There were twelve lead changes and five cautions for 24 laps.

Updated playoff standings with five races remaining in the regular season are: Chase Briscoe first (6 wins), Austin Cindric second (5 wins), Noah Gragson third (2 wins), Justin Allgaier fourth (1 win), Brandon Jones fifth (2 wins), Harrison Burton sixth (2 wins), and Justin Haley seventh (1 win) are locked in the playoffs. In the playoffs for now are Ross Chastain eighth, Michael Annett ninth, Riley Herbst tenth, Ryan Sieg eleventh, and Brandon Brown twelfth. Outside looking in are Jeremy Clements thirteenth, Myatt Snider fourteenth, Alex Labbe fifteenth, and Josh Williams sixteenth. The Xfinity Series will now head back to Daytona for the Wawa 250 powered by Cola-Cola next Friday at 7:30 pm on NBCSN.
