On lap 23, both Gibbs and Self had issues with their cars. Self had a fuel pressure issue while Gibbs had right rear suspension problems. By the time Self’s car would get going again, Heim caught him and put him a lap down. The competition caution came out on lap 31. Michael Self would get the free pass. During the break, teams had five minutes to adjust their cars, change tires, and add fuel.

After having a fuel pressure issue, Michael Self was back at it and passed Drew Dollar on the inside of turn three for fifth place. Heim continued to dominate as the second caution would come out on lap 61 for the second race break.
