On Thursday, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Daniel Hemric will drive the No. 18 Toyota Supra in 2021, replacing Riley Herbst. Hemric competed with JR Motorsports in 21 races with seven top-five finishes and 12 top-ten finishes. His sponsor and crew chief will be announced at a later date.

Hemric released a statement on joining Gibbs, saying, “It’s been quite a roller coaster ride for me over the last few years, but I can’t say how thankful I am for the opportunity to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing. Their reputation speaks for itself. I know they have high expectations for me, as I do as well, and I could not be more excited to chase the Xfinity Series championship with them next season.”
This will be Hemric’s first full-time ride since competing with Richard Childress Racing for two-years before being moved up to the Cup Series in 2019. He lasted only one year before losing his ride and returned to the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports. In his three-years in the Xfinity Series, he has 30 top-five finishes, 51 top-ten finishes, and five poles in 87 career starts. Hemric now joins Harrison Burton and Brandon Jones as full-time drivers. Both Jones and Burton combined for five wins this year.
Steve de Souza, Executive Vice President of Xfinity Series and Development for Joe Gibbs Racing, talked about Hemric’s addition to the team, saying, “We’re excited to have Daniel join our Xfinity Series team. He has proven the ability to run up front and we believe his experience and consistency will be a benefit to our overall program. We look forward to him competing with Brandon (Jones) and Harrison (Burton) for wins and contending for a championship.”
The 2021 Xfinity Series season kicks off on Saturday, February 13th, at Daytona International Speedway.
