Dwayne Johnson released a statement on his Instagram account saying, ā€œAs owners, weā€™re proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities, and fans into an electrifying 2022 season! Iā€™m so inspired to put in the work because football always represented an opportunity to me. Opportunity to take care of my family. And even though my dreams of playing pro football never came true ā€“ Iā€™m in the exciting and humbling position to create opportunities for players so their dreams can come true. Itā€™s an uphill battle ā€“ but weā€™re hungry, humble, and no one will outwork us. A league of culture, passion & purpose. We are the XFL, and weā€™re back spring 2022!ā€

The XFL sent a letter to former players thanking them who participated this past season as XFL New Hubā€™s Josh Davis obtained a copy. In the letter, the XFL said, ā€œWe are going to take our time to come back and ensure that we build a league of culture, passion, and purpose for the benefit of our players, coaches, staff, partners, and fans, and given the uncertainty of the public health environment, a 2022 re-launch will help us provide a safe gameday experience for everyone together.ā€

Once the announcement was made, several players took to Twitter to comment on the XFLā€™s return, including former Dallas Renegades wide receiver Jazz Ferguson, DC Defenders wide receiver Tyler Palka.

Players got a nice email today, no extra details to share but just happy to know what the overall plan is https://t.co/5HddeMM1CM ā€” Bruno Reagan (@BrunoReagan) October 1, 2020

This gives the XFL 16 months to prepare for the upcoming 2022 season. With many players, coaches, and staff now either in the NFL, NFL practice squads, or free agents, the new owners have a lot of work to do. It will be interesting to see which players, coaches, and staff from 2020 return and who could potentially join the league in 2022. Let the countdown begin.
