Gary Porter’s Final Race as a Monster Truck Driver

Gary Porter is a monster truck driver famously known for driving the Carolina Crusher and Grave Digger 12 monster truck. Gary Porter has been involved with monster trucks since 1981 when he and his brother opened Porter’s 4×4 shop. In order to help grow their business, they built a monster truck in 1985 and competed in local shows in the North Carolina area. Porter monster truck racing career began in 1987 with the Carolina Crusher monster truck in the TNT Motorsports series.

Porter would go on to win the inaugural PENDA Points Championship in 1991. Porter ran the Carolina Crusher monster truck from 1987 to 1999 when the truck was sold to Paul Shafer. After the Carolina Crusher was sold to Shafer, Porter was then hired by Clear Channel Entertainment to drive a variety of monster trucks including Ragin’ Steel and Spiderman. A year later, he joined his longtime friend Dennis Anderson and drive Grave Digger 12 from 2001 to 2011.

Porter during his time with Grave Digger would go on to win a ton of races including the Monster Jam Points Series in 2003, WMTRL Championship in 2004, King Of The Beach Wildwood, NJ 2010 and 2011. Porter would return to the Carolina Crusher Monster Truck for its 30th anniversary in 2014 and would compete until his retirement in July 2017.
