Philadelphia Eagles select Jalen Reagor

With the twenty-first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected wide receiver Jalen Reagor out of TCU. Reagor is five foot ten, 205 pounds with a burst of speed similar to DeSean Jackson. He is the son of former NFL Defense End and Super Bowl champion Montae Reagor.

Reagor made an immediate impact as a freshman when he had thirty-three receptions for 576-yards (17.5 per) eight touchdowns in fourteen games. He also had eight rushing attempts for 65-yards and had four kickoff returns for 122-yards. His numbers earned the Big 12 Co-offensive Player of the Year award and Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. In 2018, he played thirteen games with a career-high seventy-two receptions for 1,061-yards (14.7 per) and nine touchdowns. He also had thirteen carries for 170-yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he had four kickoff returns for 121-yards, eight punt returns for 97-yards and was named All Big-12 second team.

In his final season as a junior in 2019, Reagor had forty-three receptions for 611-yards (14.2 per) and five touchdowns. He also had fourteen rushing attempts for 89-yards. His special teams were on another level, and he had five kickoff returns for 72-yards, fifteen punt returns for 312-yards (20.8 per), and touchdown punt return touchdowns. He was selected as the All-Big 12-second team for the second constitutive year.

When you look at these numbers, Reagor will remind some Eagles fans of DeSean Jackson, and his speed gives Wentz a deep threat receiver that he didn’t have after Jackson got hurt. This will also help Jackson in his role as he might not be asked to go deep too often. He could be in the slot position that could confuse defensive secondaries as to who is going deep down the field.

With Reagor now in the fold, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles will use him going forward. Not only will he get opportunities to catch passes from Wentz or Wentz’s backup, but he could also do some punt and kickoff returns if needed. The Eagles made a good pick.
