Sebastien Bourdais returns to the NTT IndyCar Series for the last three races of the season and all of 2021 with AJ Foyt Racing. The four-time Champ Car champion will drive the No. 14 Chevrolet beginning October 2nd for Race One of the Harvest Grand Prix from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He takes over the ride from Dalton Kellett.
Bourdais is currently competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with JDC Motorsports Cadillac in the Daytona Prototype class. Bourdais is presently preparing for this weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. He was scheduled to share the No. 14 ride part-time with Dalton and Tony Kannan before the pandemic hit, which caused IndyCar to delay the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to October 25th.

Dalton Kellett has competed in six races with the No. 14 Chevrolet, and his best finish in those six races was 20th twice at Elkhart Lake’s Road America. Kellett will move to the No. 41 K-Line Insulators Chevrolet that he debut at this year’s Indianapolis 500. AJ Foyt Racing also fields a third car driven by Charlie Kimball.
Bourdais released a statement on his return to AJ Foyt Racing, saying, “This is exciting news for all of us. We waited with anticipation for most of 2020 to put together a deal for 2021. I’m really happy that I’m running the last three races of the year — it is great for us to get an early start on next year. 2020 has been a very strange year so far, and I can’t wait to finally get behind the wheel of the AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet No. 14.”
Larry Foyt, President of AJ Foyt Racing, on the addition of Bourdais, said, “I’m happy to have this deal done and welcome Sebastien to AJ Foyt Racing,” Foyt said. “The short time we have been able to work together showed a great deal of promise, and it was a shame that his races with us were derailed by the pandemic. I’m glad we were able to add some of these races back on the schedule, as it will undoubtedly help us kickstart his full-time campaign for 2021. His resume speaks for itself, and there is no denying he is a great addition to our program.”
Bourdais is the first confirmed driver for the 2021 season for AJ Foyt Racing. The status of both Dalton Kellett and Charlie Kimball is up in the air. Foyt also did not rule out a possible return of Tony Kannan. The NTT IndyCar Series will return for the last doubleheader event of the year with IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix on Saturday, October 2nd, at 3:30 pm on USA Network and October 3rd at 2:30 pm on NBC.
