On Friday, Turner Motorsport announced it has finalized its lineup for the 2021 Rolex 24 Daytona with Bill Auberlen, Robby Foley, Aiden Reed, and IndyCar star Colton Herta. Turner Motorsport competes in the IMSA GTD category.
NEWS! Stacked higher than the pancakes at IHOP. Bill, @FoleyRacingRFR, @AidanReed45 and one of the last remaining members of the Grateful Dead, @ColtonHerta. Our team at basecamp has been working like mad. Thrashing on cars and even #ZebraSpotting. Let’s go!#IMSA @IMSA https://t.co/jQhx7rr8FD — Turner Motorsport (@Turnermotrsport) January 8, 2021
Team Principle Will Turner on the driver lineup said, “Our lineup for 2021 is stellar. Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley have become quite the dynamic duo over the past few seasons, and I could not be happier to have them return for another season. For the Rolex 24, BMW NA facilitated Colton Herta signing on, and his addition cannot be underestimated. Sometimes it feels like the last two decades have been a whirlwind. Still, I don’t want to miss the chance to thank BMW for their belief in the team and support to help Turner Motorsport reach 400 races and seven championships.”
In 2020, Bill Auberlen became the winningest driver in IMSA history with 61 wins, surpassing Scott Pruitt. Auberlen has won multiple championships and has won at Daytona back in 1998. He and teammate Robby Foley won two races and four podiums in 2020.
Colton Herta returns to IMSA with Turner Motorsport. He raced for the last two years with Rahal Letterman Lanigan in the GTLM category. He, along with Connor De Phillippi, Philipp Eng, and Augusto Farfus, won the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona. The team would get two podium finishes that season.
Herta’s statement on joining Turner Motorsport said, “I’m excited to be staying with BMW this year, and I appreciate the opportunity to drive the Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3. It’s going to be a new challenge for me racing in the GTD class, but I’m very much looking forward to cracking on with everyone.”
The 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship starts the season with the Roar Before the Rolex 24 on Sunday, January 24th, with the Motul 100. The Rolex 24 at Daytona will take place Saturday, January 30th, through Sunday, January 31st.
