The ARCA Menards Series visited Newton, Iowa, for the Shore Lunch 150 at Iowa Speedway Saturday afternoon. Chandler Smith was the pole-sitter with Taylor Gray beside him to make up the front row. Behind them were Michael Self starting in third and Hailie Deegan in fourth. ARCA officials put two competition breaks at laps 50 and 100.

Chandler Smith pulled away from the start of the race, leaving the rest of the field fighting for second place. Ty Gibbs started in fifth place and passed Hailie Deegan, Michael Self, and Taylor Gray to move into the second position with his sights set on Chandler Smith. Bret Holmes got by Taylor Gray before the first caution came out when Scott Melton spun at turn four on the sixth lap. Melton’s car did not suffer any damage.

On the restart, Chandler Smith led the first ten laps before Ty Gibbs made an inside move to pass him for the lead coming off of turn two. Taylor Gray lost two spots to both Bret Holmes and Drew Dollar and was now sitting in the eighth position. As Gibbs was pulling away, Hailie Deegan challenged Chandler Smith for the second position and got it with an inside move coming off of turn two.

Chandler Smith almost lost the third position to Michael Self coming off of turn four; however, Self got loose trying to make the pass, and Smith was able to keep the position. On lap 30, Self lost the fourth position to Sam Mayer coming out of turn two. A lap later, Mayer would catch Chandler Smith and take the third position.
Meanwhile, Ty Gibbs had a 1.879 second lead on Hailie Deegan. Two laps later, the second caution would come out as Drew Dollar stopped on the front stretch. His car was towed to the garage. The race resumed with ten laps to go until the first break. Chandler Smith lost a couple of positions on the restart to Bret Holmes and Michael Self and was now sitting in sixth place. The third caution flag came out, signaling the first break with Ty Gibbs still leading.

The race resumed on lap 55 with Gibbs in front. Taylor Gray was fighting with Bret Holmes, Max McLaughlin, and Kody Swanson for the sixth position but was able to hold onto the position. On lap 64, Chandler Smith took away the fourth position from Michael Self with an inside pass off of turn two.
Jesse Smith got loose and spun at turn two to bring out the fourth caution of the day. His car did not suffer any damage from the spin.
On the restart at lap 76, Hailie Deegan challenged Ty Gibbs for first; however, Gibb’s car was strong on the outside, and he remained in the lead. Michael Self was having problems controlling his car as he tried to hold onto the fourth position, only to lose it to Bret Holmes. Hailie Deegan had some car issues while she was running in the second position. Her car was smoking as she had a flat right rear tire. She slowed on the track bringing out the caution but made it back to pit road. She ended up going behind the wall with a rear-end mechanical problem.

Gibbs was running away at this point with a 2.690 lead over Sam Mayer, with the second break coming soon. Scott Melton would go around again for the second time at turn four on lap 98 to bring out the fifth caution of the race. Michael Self was already on pit road at the time of the caution with a wiring issue. During the caution, his team was able to fix the problem.

The race resumed on lap 100 with Sam Mayer challenging Ty Gibbs for the lead but could not get it due to Gibb’s strong run on the outside. Bret Holmes took the third position away from Chandler Smith with 43 laps to go. Gio Scelzi got loose and spun, hitting the inside wall off of turn two to bring out the sixth caution. His car did not suffer any significant damage. Hailie Deegan came back out on to the track in 18th place, 20 laps down. Once the race resumed on lap 113, Ty Gibbs got the lead, and he was gone.
With 28 laps to go, Bret Holmes and Chandler Smith were battling for the third position. Holmes was able to get the third position a lap later from Smith. With 18 laps to go, Tayler Gray got the fifth position from Michael Self.
Ty Gibbs led the last 140 laps in complete domination to win his third race of the season by 1.879 seconds over the second-place finisher Sam Mayer.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Bret Holmes third, Chandler Smith fourth, Taylor Gray fifth, Michael Self sixth, Max McLaughlin seventh, Kody Swanson eighth, Gracie Trotter ninth, and Thad Moffitt tenth.
The ARCA Menards Series will now head to Kansas Speedway next Friday in the Dawn 150 at 10 pm on FS1.
