Hello everyone and welcome to another blog edition where today I’ll talk about why NASCAR and it’s broadcast television partners should do more drivers only races. So without further ado, let’s get started.
Last week at Pocono Raceway, The NASCAR Xfinity Series Race took place on the FOX Network. But this was a different kind of race. It was the first ever drivers only broadcast. The drivers that called the Pocono Xfinity Race were Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer. Pit reporters were Erik Jones, Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Ryan Blaney. And finally the Hollywood Hotel had Danica Patrick and Denny Hamlin.
Everyone who did this race seemed like they have been doing this their entire careers. Well, you do see Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer and other NASCAR Monster Energy Cup drivers guest commentate during both the Xfinity and Truck series races.
This was a fun race to watch and the audience learned alot about what goes into making a race car like technical supports, engines, aero packages and more. Brad Keselowski won the Xfinity Race and Ryan Blaney interviewed him. What was an awesome moment a day later was seeing Ryan Blaney win his first race at Pocono and Brad Keselowski switching roles and interviewing Ryan after the race. You can checkout the video at the bottom of this blog.
In another month NBC Sports takes over the second half seasons of both the Xfinity and Monster Energy Cup series races and after what took place at Pocono last week. NBC should do their own drivers only broadcast race. I would love to see different drivers call the races for NBC Sports broadcast for one race.
Drivers who I would like to see as part of the broadcast team are Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson and Martin Truex Jr for the broadcasting team. Pit reporters could be Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott and Chris Buescher. And the NBC Studio hotel with Ryan Newman and Jamie McMurray. This would be a fun group of drivers to listen to in a future Xfinity race for NBC Sports. Here are some of the highlights from the NASCAR Xfinity Pocono Race that featured the drivers takeover the broadcast.
What did you think of the drivers only broadcast race? What drivers would you like to see broadcast a NASCAR race? Leave a comment below.
