Why The NBA Is Becoming A Bad Product

In the last two weekends, the NBA on ABC Saturday Night, ESPN didn’t get what they wanted when the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers gave their top stars the night off. Thus, ESPN reporters started complaining about the stars taking the night off on national television. This has been going for quite some time and people are starting to take notice of this.

First of all, the NBA plays an 82 game regular season schedule and that can be brutal for the players. With the combination of national television networks that air NBA games like ESPN, ABC, and TNT, and their own network NBA TV, teams are making a decision to rest their stars on certain games so the players can be healthy going into the playoffs. The networks air these teams every single week like the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Again, these teams are featured in every single national television game and not the other 25 teams that play in the NBA like Charlotte, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Orlando and so on. Because the NBA only features these five teams every week and not the other 25 teams shows you that the talent level in the NBA overall is bad.

People shouldn’t be mad at the teams or the players, they should be mad at how the NBA is becoming a bad product and it shows on the court. Sometimes, watching an NBA game is like watching a college basketball game. The NBA currently allows college basketball players to enter the league after their freshman year and this is very bad for both college basketball and the NBA. It takes a player to develop at least 5 years when these college players can still be in college and earn an education before playing in the NBA.

College basketball players have plenty of time for the NBA but it’s after their careers are over is when their education comes in handy. When you watch these kids play in the NBA, you can tell that a lot of them are not ready for the NBA. The NBA should raise the age limit to 22 meaning they go all 4 years in college before entering the league. If the NBA raises the age limit to 22, you will see a better product on the court and all 30 teams will be competitive which is good for business.

The NBA should also cut the season schedule down from 82 to 60 games giving players extra days off and you wouldn’t see teams resting their stars on national television. The NBA would benefit from this if they made these two moves and the league would be fun again to watch for all fans. What changes would you make in order for the NBA to become great again? Comment below, I would love to read your comments.
