Brett Moffitt announced on his Twitter page Wednesday night that he signed with Niece Motorsports full-time for 2021 and will compete for the Camping World Truck Series championship. Under NASCAR rules, drivers are only allowed to compete for one championship. The 28-year-old from Grimes, Iowa, finished in third place in the championship with GMS Racing last season. Just last month, Moffitt signed with Our Motorsports full-time for 2021 in the Xfinity Series.

In his statement on Twitter, Moffitt said, “I am so thankful to Al Niece, Cody Efaw, and everyone at Niece Motorsports for this Opportunity. To be able to compete full-time in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the Xfinity Series is a challenge I look forward to. Chris Our, Our Motorsports and Chevrolet were a big part of helping this all come together, so a big thank you to them as well.”
The last time a driver competed in two series full-time was in 2014. Kyle Larson competed in the Cup Series (36 races) and Xfinity Series (28 races). Kyle Busch competed in (36 races in the Cup Series) and (26 races in the Xfinity Series).
Moffitt has become an experienced driver in the Truck Series. Making 82 career starts with three poles, twelve wins, 39 top-five, and 52 top-ten finishes. He won the 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship with Hattori Racing before moving over to GMS Racing for the last two seasons.
Niece Motorsports General Manager Cody Efaw released a statement on Moffitt’s addition said, “Brett is a proven winner. We are thrilled to have him join Niece Motorsports. The experience he will bring to our team is invaluable. We are working hard this offseason – our goal in 2021 is to run up front and contend for wins.”
Niece Motorsports will field three Truck Series teams next year. Moffitt will drive the No. 45 Chevrolet while Carson Hocevar will drive the No. 42 Chevrolet, and Ryan Truex in the No. 40 Chevrolet with Marquis Hot Tubs as a sponsor.
Niece Motorsports Owner Al Niece released a statement on next year’s driver lineup, saying, “I’m excited about our driver lineup next year. Brett is a tremendous talent and will be a huge asset to our team. We know that our drivers have the talent it takes to contend for wins in the Truck Series, and l know our crew is working as hard as possible this offseason to build them equipment capable of doing so.”
Al Niece launched Niece Motorsports in 2016 and ran only one race at Texas Motor Speedway. The team competed in its first full season in the following year with TJ Bell behind the wheel, and then grew into a two-truck team in 2018 with Austin Wayne Self and Justin Fontaine driving the trucks.
In 2019, Niece Motorsports would get its first win with Ross Chastain behind the wheel. Chastain would go on to win one pole, win three races with ten top-five and 19 top-ten finishes. Chastain would finish runner-up to the eventual champion Matt Crafton. In 2020, the team had three full-time trucks and one part-time truck and scored three top-five and thirteen top-ten finishes.
The 2021 Camping World Truck Series season starts Friday, February 12th, from Daytona International Speedway.
