The Can-Am Baseball League announced today that they are merging with the Frontier League in 2020. The five Can-Am League teams will join the nine Frontier League teams to make fourteen teams in two divisions that will be called the Can-Am Division and Midwestern Division.
The Can-Am Division will have the New Jersey Jackals, Sussex County Miners, Rockland Boulders, Quebec Capitals, Trios-Rivieres Aigles, Lake Erie Crushers, and Washington Wild Things. The Midwestern Division will have the Evansville Otters, Florence Freedom, Gateway Grizzlies, Joliet Slammers, Schaumburg Boomers, Southern Illinois Miners, and Windy City Thunderbolts.
Frontier League Commissioner Bill Lee commented on this historic day for the two leagues saying, “I am extremely excited and privileged to be able to make this announcement. These discussions have been ongoing for almost two years. The 2019 Frontier League/Can-Am League All-Star Game was the first major step in the Leagues working together. We believe this merger strengthens Independent Professional Baseball as a whole. I want to thank everyone from both Leagues that have worked so hard to make this happen.”
Executive Director of the Can-Am League Kevin Winn also commented on this historic announcement saying, “It has been my honor to be a part of this groundbreaking deal, and I can’t thank all parties involved enough for getting us to this historic moment. I look forward to seeing where our newly formed alliance heads next and all the Independent Professional Baseball history that is yet to be written.”
The 2020 Frontier League season will begin on Thursday, May 14th and conclude September 6th. The full Frontier League 2020 schedule will be released on October 21st, 2019.
