By Michael HeilmanThe Carolina Cobras (9-3) continued their march to the NAL playoffs Sunday night against the New York Streets (3-9) at Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. The Cobras are currently seeded at number two behind the Jacksonville Sharks while the Streets are eliminated from playoff contention.

The Cobras got on board first when wide receiver LaVon Pearson caught a fourteen-yard pass from quarterback Charles McCullum. The Cobras attempted a two-point conversion but failed the score stood at 6-0. With a minute and twenty-two seconds left in the first quarter, the Cobras extended their lead Kyrin Priester ran for a ten-yard touchdown with the extra point converted to make it a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Cobras didn’t stop there as the defense sacked Streets quarterback Cody Williams in the endzone for a safety to give Carolina a 15-0 lead. The Cobras continued to add to the scoreboard as Charles McCullum would throw his second touchdown pass of the game this time a 10-yard pass to Wide Receiver Jordan Jolly to extend the Cobras lead 24-0. McCullum further added to the Cobras lead when he rushed for an 11-yard touchdown run to make it 31-0 lead. The Cobras next scoring drive came when Streets quarterback Cody Williams fumbled the ball at the snap, and the Cobras defense recovered the ball in the endzone to further extend the lead to 38-0. The defense forced another safety when Streets quarterback had to chase the ball after the lineman snapped the ball over him that went into the endzone. Williams ate the sack; thus, the Cobras lead was now 40-0. Charles McCullum continued to add to the Cobras lead throwing his third touchdown pass of the game when he hit Kyrin Priester for 40-yards. A failed extra point made it a 46-0 lead for the Cobras heading into halftime.

Unfortunately, the game never resumed as it was called off due to the Carolina Cobras locker room being vandalized. Charles McCullum finished the night going 10 for 15 completions for 151-yards and 3 touchdown passes while rushing for 14-yards and a touchdown. A National Arena League spokesperson released a statement on the NAL Facebook page quote:

“During Sunday night’s Carolina Cobras vs. New York Streets National Arena League game, the Cobras’ locker room was accessed, and players and coaches personal items were removed without permission. Because of this, the game was halted at halftime.

Westchester County Police are working with the Streets, the Cobras, and the league by reviewing security footage of the area.

The County Center is working with the New York Streets to issue patrons refunds.

The Streets sincerely apologize to the Cobras organization – including their players, coaches, ownership – and the fans of the Streets and the National Arena League.”

The Cobras record is now at 10-3 and will wrap up the 2019 season Saturday night in Columbus against the Lions. The Streets final regular-season game is also Saturday night as they travel to face the Massachusetts Pirates.
