Denny Hamlin wins the pole at Talladega

After a second-place finish last week at Richmond, Denny Hamlin will lead the field to green for this Sunday’s Geico 500 from Talladega Superspeedway. Hamlin has won at Talladega two times and won last year’s race. He won the pole by a metric qualifying system.

The metric qualifying system determines a driver’s finishing position from the previous race, car owner’s finishing position from the previous race, team owner points rankings, and fastest lap from the previous race. Joey Logano, who finished third last week, will start second.
