The NASCAR Xfinity Series held its Memorial Day race Monday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Alsco 300. Ross Chastain and Brandon Jones were on the front row as the green flag waved to start the race.

It didn’t take long for the first caution flag to come as Kody Vanderwal got into the wall on lap four. Without practice and the necessary adjustments made on the cars, the first laps can be precarious. Ross Chastain would lead the field back to the green flag on lap eight. In the meantime, Kyle Busch was making his way to the front running in sixth place after starting eighteenth. The competition caution would come out on lap 21.

Some of the lead lap cars made pit stops, but Ross Chastain, Justin Haley, and Kyle Busch elected to stay out. Chastain and Haley led the field back to the green flag on lap 26. Two laps later, Kody Vanderwal blew up to bring out the third caution of the race. Justin Allgaier pitted, giving his crew time to work on electrical issues causing him to drive without gauges. Chastain would once again lead the field back to the green flag only to be challenged by Kyle Busch for the lead on lap 33.

Busch got loose on his first attempt to take the lead, but Chastain couldn’t hold Busch back as Busch would go on to pass him on lap 38 to take the lead and go on to win stage one. All of the lead lap cars made pit stops with Busch winning the race off of pit road with Ross Chastain coming out second. Jeffrey Earnhardt came out of pit road with the jack under the car and was penalized for it.

Busch led the field back to the green flag to start stage two on lap 53, Chastain quickly took the lead and then the two would go on to battle for that position back and forth. While they were battling it out, out of nowhere comes Chase Briscoe, who took second place away from Kyle Busch.

Busch would get by Briscoe, then Chastain to regain the lead on lap 81 and would go on to win stage two. All of the lead lap cars came to pit road, and Busch would beat everyone out to stay in the lead. Chase Briscoe driver of the 98 car was penalized for a tire violation.

Busch would once again lead the field back to the green to start the final stage on lap 100. On the restart, Chastain got the lead from Busch, but Busch got it right back all within five laps into the final stage. As the lead lap cars began to make scheduled pit stops, Busch would come in at lap 149, relinquishing the lead to Noah Gragson. However, Busch would get caught speeding on pit road, which meant a drive-through penalty and sent to the end of the line.

The race would then get chaotic on lap 155 when Timmy Hill’s engine blew up and caused a mess for those behind him. Chase Briscoe and Ross Chastain would both hit the wall, trying to avoid Hill, who couldn’t see at that point.

There was a new leader to bring the field back to the green flag with 25 laps to go, and that was Austin Cindric. Not long after the restart, a wreck occurred when Myatt Snider got turned in the backstretch and made contact with Justin Allgaier on lap 184.

Cindric would once again lead the field back to the green flag with Noah Gragson on the outside and Kyle Busch, who had driven through the field to take the third spot. He also had fresher tires than both Cindric and Gragson. Both drivers couldn’t hold off Busch any longer, and Busch went for the lead and got it on lap 190. The wreck fest continued three laps later as Riley Herbst and Justin Haley made contact on the front stretch, causing Herbst to spin in the infield.

Busch would lead the field back to the green flag with seven laps to go, and not long after the restart, another wreck happened, this time Noah Gragson got loose exiting turn two and made contact with Brandon Jones, Tommy Joe Martin, and Justin Haley.
