The National Premier Soccer League announced today that the Las Vegas Legends FC have joined the league for the 2020 season. Las Vegas Legends FC will compete in the West Region’s Southwest Conference.
“We are very excited to bring the NPSL to Las Vegas,” NPSL Managing Director Cindy Spera said. “It is wonderful to see the Southwest Conference continue to grow, and we are looking forward to having a strong presence in Nevada.”
The Legends FC debuted in 2012 as a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League. They split their home games at the Orleans Arena and Las Vegas Sports Park. From 2012 to 2016, The Legends won a combined 68 wins and 26 losses, winning their division four times and appearing in the Western Conference Finals four times. The Legends FC will be led by Club Founder and President Mark Cohen.
“With the recent success of the MLS nationwide, the excitement of soccer in general is spreading,” Cohen said. “The Las Vegas area is seeing major growth in youth soccer participation. Southern Nevada is home to over one million people, and we have a diverse population with Latino, European, South American, and other soccer-friendly residents that have the love of soccer.”
In 2006, Mark Cohen founded the Las Vegas Knights. The Knights were a powerhouse club in the Professional Arena Soccer League winning three national championships. Cohen then founded the Las Vegas Legends FC in 2012 and is now ready to take the team from the indoor league to the outdoor league.
“We are excited to bring the Legends back,” Cohen added. “The Legends were well before their time, one of the first pro sports teams in Las Vegas. But now, Las Vegas Legends FC will be a part of the booming sports culture in our city joining the Las Vegas Raiders, Golden Knights, Aces, and hopefully a future MLS team. We are confident that we will build a successful team that our community will be proud to watch and support.”
