Long Island Ducks take commanding 2-0 Series Lead

The Long Island Ducks took a commanding 2-0 series lead with a win over the High Point Rockers 8-1 Wednesday night at BB&T Park in the 2019 Liberty Division Championship Series. The Ducks are one win away from advancing to the Atlantic League Championship Finals.
Rockers Designated Hitter Richie Shaffer got things going in the bottom of the second inning hitting a single line drive, Shaffer then advanced to second base on a throwing error by Ducks catcher Hector Sanchez. The Rockers would score in the inning when center fielder Myles Schroder singled out to left field to bring home Shaffer to put the Rockers up 1-0.
The Ducks answered back in the top of the third inning when Steve Lombardozzi tripled out to center field to bring home both Myles Schroder and Vladimir Frias to put the Ducks up 2-1. The Ducks got one more run in the inning when Lew Ford singled to center field to bring home Lombardozzi to extend the Ducks lead 3-1.
The Ducks continued to add to the scoring column in the top of the sixth inning when Lew Ford collected his second RBI of the game hitting a double to score Steve Lombardozzi to make it a 4-1 Ducks lead. A batter later, Ducks left fielder L.J. Mazzilli hit a two-run home run out to center field to extend the Ducks lead 6-1.
The Ducks added yet another run in the top of the seventh inning as Ducks right fielder Daniel Fields homered out to left field to further the Ducks lead 7-1.
The Ducks would add one more run in the top of the ninth inning when Ducks center fielder Rey Fuentes singled on a line drive to center field to score Vladimir Frias to make it an 8-1 Ducks lead.
The Ducks Brian Matusz came in the bottom of the ninth inning to get Richie Shaffer to strike out swinging and fly outs from both Michael Russell and Myles Schroder to end the game. Ducks pitcher Vin Mazzaro (8 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 10 SO) was the winning pitcher.
With the win, the Ducks are now one win away from punching their ticket to the Atlantic League Championship Final. Game three of the 2019 Liberty Division Championship Series takes place Friday, September 27th from Bethpage Park with first pitch set for 6:35 pm.
