Los Angeles Wildcats make changes

By Michael Heilman

Coming off of a 37-17 loss to the Houston Roughnecks Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles Wildcats have made changes heading into their week two matchup against the Dallas Renegades on Sunday in their home opener at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Wildcats cut outside linebacker and captain Anthony Johnson. Johnson had one tackle and an assist on a tackle. Johnson played college football at LSU. In 2019, Johnson played for the AAF’s Memphis Express and later joined the Calgary Stampeders practice squad. Johnson announced his release on his twitter.

The other announcement made was the firing of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Pepper Johnson after a twenty-point loss to the Roughnecks. Wildcats Head Coach Winston Moss released a statement on the departure of Pepper Johnson.

“We recognize that there are issues we need to address for the 2020 season. While these decisions are difficult, we have given this significant thought. We are here to put the best possible product on the field for our fans. We thank Pepper for his contributions to the Wildcats and we are looking forward to our home opener this weekend.”

So far, Moss has not made an announcement on who will replace Johnson at DC and linebacker coach or who will replace Anthony Johnson at linebacker.
