On Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced that the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball would be the first “Partner League.” The ALPB will collaborate with MLB to discuss joint marketing, promotional opportunities, shared goals, and providing baseball to communities across the United States. Last year, the Atlantic League partnered with MLB on experimenting rules from mound visits, shorter inning breaks, limiting defensive shifting, and the Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS), a radar tracking technology to assist home plate umpires on balls and strikes.

Morgan Sword, MLB’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Economics & Operations on this partnership, said, “We are excited to extend our relationship with the Atlantic League, which provides us a unique means to push the sport forward. The Atlantic League clubs and players have been great partners to us as we jointly test ways to make our game even more interesting and engaging to fans.”
Rick White, the President of Atlantic League Baseball, on the continued relationship with MLB saying, “The Atlantic League is inspired by the evolution of its relationship with Major League Baseball and thrilled to be named their first Partner League. We value MLB’s confidence in ALPB and look forward to advancing our sport together.”
The Atlantic League is an eight-team league located in York, PA; Sugar Land, TX; Somerset, NJ; Lancaster, PA; Gastonia, NC; High Point, NC; Long Island, NY, and Waldorf, MD.
