The New Jersey Jackals took game one of the 2019 Can-Am League Championship defeating the Sussex County Miners 3-2 from Yogi Berra Park. The Jackals had to go extra innings to secure the win.
There was no scoring between the two through four innings until the Jackals got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Isaac Wenrich hit a double to bring home Nelson Ward to the put the Jackals up 1-0.
The Miners would answer back in the top of the seventh inning when first baseman Audy Ciriaco hit a home run to tie the game up at 1-1.
The Miners would go on to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning as left fielder Jose Brizuela singled to bring home Cito Culver to put the Miners up 2-1. The Jackals though would have an answer of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning when left fielder Alfredo Marte singled to bring home Santiago Chirino to tie the game up 2-2.
The Jackals would go on to win the game in the bottom of the tenth inning as right fielder Demetrius Moore scored on a wild pitch to give the Jackals a 3-2 win and a 1-0 series lead.
Game two of the Can-Am League championship game will be Wednesday, September 11th from Yogi Berra Park with first pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
