The NWHL held its 2020 NWHL Draft for rounds one and two Tuesday night. Before the draft got underway, there was a trade between the Boston Pride and the new NHWL expansion team Toronto. In the deal, Boston acquired the number one overall pick in the 2020 draft and a 2020 fifth-round pick from Toronto in exchange for Boston’s 2020 first round, along with 2021 first-round pick and 2021 second-round pick.
Also, the NWHL had some special guests announcing the selections of each player as they were drafted, such as football, basketball, and hockey broadcaster Kenny Albert, WWE’s Chief Branding Officer Stephine McMahon, and others. The Pride didn’t waste any time by selecting Boston Universities own Sammy Davis, a forward from Pembroke, Massachusetts had sixty-six goals and seventy-six assists for the Terriers.

The Connecticut Whale were up next and took Clarkson University forward Kayla Friesen. She had a total of sixty-three goals and one hundred and five assists for the Golden Knights.

The Buffalo Beauts with the third pick in the draft selected goaltender Carly Jackson from Maine. In the 2019-20 season, Jackson made 861 saves allowing 61 goals with a 12-11-7 record for the Black Bears.

With the number four pick, the Metropolitan Riveters selected Yale defenseman Saroya Tinker. Tinker played a hundred and twenty-two games, scoring five goals and twenty-seven assists for the Bulldogs.

The Minnesota Whitecaps selected Minnesota forward Alex Woken. The 22-year-old from Fargo, North Dakota, tallied thirty-eight goals and thirty-seven assists for the Golden Gophers. Woken has also won two gold medals in the U18 United States World Juniors team.

The final pick in the first round saw the Toronto franchise select Robert Morris forward Jaycee Gebhard. A native of Plenty, SK, Gebhard tallied seventy-four goals and a hundred and twenty-four assists for the Colonials.

The Connecticut Whale kicked off the second round by selecting New Hampshire defenseman Victoria Howran. Howran played sixty career games for the Wildcats tallying seven goals and forty-eight assists. She also won the silver medal in the U18 Canada World Juniors team.

Toronto was up next with the eighth pick and selected Cornell forward Amy Curlew. Curlew played a hundred and twenty-two career games for the Big Red’s notching twenty-four goals and thirty-six assists.

The Beauts were up again with the ninth pick in the second selecting Northeastern University defenseman Codie Cross. Cross played a total of a hundred and thirty-four games for the Huskies tallying twelve goals and fifty assists. She was part of the 2015-16 Canada silver medal U18 World Juniors team.

The Minnesota Whitecaps took another Golden Gophers player selecting defenseman Patti Marshall. Marshall played a hundred and fifty games tallying eight goals and fifty-three assists. She was part of the United States and Canada’s U18 World Juniors team, winning two goals medals and a silver medal.

Closing out the night was the Boston Pride, who selected Maine forward Tereza Vanisova. She played a hundred and twenty-nine games for the Black Bears notching sixty-three goals and sixty-six assists. She has won numerous awards, including a bronze medal for the U18 Czech Republic World Juniors team, and two Division 1A gold medals.
