Somerset Patriots close out 2019 ALPB season with loss

The Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball closed out the 2019 season with a 7-2 loss to the New Britain Bees from TD Bank Ballpark.
After the Patriots walked Vineland native Darren Ford, former Phillies first-round pick Zach Collier singled to give the Bees a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Brian Mayer would follow up with a single of his own bringing home Ozzie Martinez and Zach Collier to extend the Bees lead 3-0.
The Bees continued to extend the lead in the top of the third inning as Bees first baseman Jason Rogers hit a home run to center field to make it a 4-0. The Patriots would get one back in the bottom of the fourth as Teodoro Martinez singled to drive home outfielder Olmo Rosario to cut the Bees lead 4-1.
The Bees would get that run back in the top of the sixth inning when Zach Collier would get his second RBI of the game hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home Logan Moore to put the Bees up 5-1.
The Bees were not done scoring as in the top of the ninth inning Rando Moreno doubled to right field to bring home Ozzie Martinez to extend the Bees lead to 6-1. The Bees Jared James reached first base on a fielder’s choice error by Patriots catcher Gabriel Bracamonte to bring home Brian Mayer to make it a 7-1 Bees lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Patriots would get one run back in the bottom of the ninth as catcher Gabriel Bracamonte hit a single to right field to bring home Jared James to cut the Bees lead to 7-2. Bees pitcher Grant Black struck out Jimmy Paredes to end the game.
New Britain Bees pitcher Akeel Morris (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) was the winning pitcher while Patriots pitcher Vince Molesky (5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) took the loss. The Patriots finished the regular season with an even record of 69 wins and 69 losses.
