The Sussex County Miners of the Can-Am Baseball League defeated the Rockland Boulders 8-4 to advance to the Can-Am League Championship in Game 4 of the 2019 Can-Am League playoffs.
The Miners got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Cito Culver singled to bring Jarred Mederos home to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. The Boulders would tie the game up in the top of the fourth inning as Matt Oberste hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Angelo Mora to even the score 1-1.
The Miners would take the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning Mikey Reynolds singled to bring home Tyler Clark to give the Miners a 2-1 lead. The Miners would extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as Miners DH C.J Retherford homered to give the Miners a 3-1 lead.
The Miners then exploded in the bottom of the seventh inning adding five runs to further the lead 8-1. The runs were scored first starting with a Mickey Reynolds single to bring home Tyler Clark, Trey Hair hit a two-run single bringing home both Breland Almadova and Jose Brizuela and a C.J. Retherford two-run single bringing home both Mikey Reynolds and Trey Hair.
The Boulders would answer back in the top of the eighth inning as Marcos Almonte doubled to bring home Adam Ehrlich and Collin Ferguson to cut the Miners lead to 8-3. The Boulders would add one more run as Matt Oberste advanced on a fielder’s choice bringing home Marcos Almonte to make it an 8-4 Miners lead.
The Miners brought in Ryan Newell to close the game out. Richie Fecteau struck out for the first out, then came Blake Grant-Parks who hit a fly ball for the second out and Collin Ferguson for out number three to send the Miners to the Can-Am League Championship. The winning pitcher was David Palladino (7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 SO). The Miners defeated the Rockland Boulders three games to one.
The Sussex County Miners will now play in-state rivals New Jersey Jackals in the Can-Am League Championship beginning September 10th.
