Sussex County Miners even Can-Am League Championship

The Sussex County Miners evened the 2019 Can-Am League Championship dominating the New Jersey Jackals by the final score of 12-3 Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium to even the series at 1-1.
The Miners got on the board in the first inning when Jackals pitcher Eduard Reyes was called for a balk to walk in Breland Almadova home to put the Miners up 1-0. The Miners then added another run with Audy Ciriaco fielder’s choice ground out to bring home Jordan Scott to give the Miners a 2-0 still the first inning. The Miners would add one more run the first as Trey Hair hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Mikey Reynolds to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Jackals would get a run back in the bottom of the third inning when Miners pitcher Tom Burns walked outfielder Alfredo Marte to bring home Isaac Wenrich to cut the Miners lead to 3-1.
The Miners continued to add runs in the top of the fourth inning when right fielder Mikey Reynolds hit a three-run home run out to right field to extend the Miners lead to 6-1.
The Miners would further increase their lead in the top of the sixth inning as Mikey Reynolds would once again drive in a run with a sacrifice fly to bring home Gavin Stupienski to increase the lead to 7-1. The Miners would put one more on the board as first baseman Audy Ciriaco hit a single to bring home Breland Almadova to make it an 8-1 lead.
The Miners continued to add to the scoreboard in the seventh inning as Breland Almadova hit a two-run single as C.J. Retherford and Cito Culver both crossed home plate to make it a 10-1 lead.
The Miners would once again add to the scoreboard in the top of the eleventh inning as Mikey Reynolds would once again hit a home run this time to left field to make it an 11-1 lead.
The Miners would add one more run in the top of the ninth inning as left fielder Jose Brizuela hit a solo home run to right-center field to make it a 12-1 lead. The Jackals would score in the bottom of the ninth inning as Jackals shortstop Santiago Chirino drove in Isaac Wenrich on a 4-3 putout to cut the Miners lead to 12-2. The Jackals would get one more run when Alfredo Marte singled to bring home Conrad Gregor to make it a 12-3 Miners lead. Miners pitcher Jeff Thompson would get Jackals DH Richard Stock to strikeout ending the game and giving the Miners a 12-3 win over the New Jersey Jackals.
The winning pitch went to Miners starter Tom Burns who went seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, five walks, and three strikeouts. Mikey Reynolds finished the game with two homes and five rbi’s.
The Miners will now look to take the series lead as they return home to Skylands Stadium for Game 3 of the 2019 Can-Am League Championship Friday night, September 13th at 7 pm.
