The Spring League Week 2 Recap:

The Spring League kicked off week 2 with a doubleheader on FS1 with the Aviators against the Blues, followed by Conquerors versus the Alphas. Week 2 concluded Thursday night with the Generals versus the Jousters. Here is the Week 2 recap.

Aviators 23, Blues 17 F (OT)

The Blues got on the board first when Shea Patterson escaped a pass rush and connected with tight end David Grinnage to put the Blues up 7-0. With less than two minutes left in the first half, the Aviators tied it up 7-7 after McLeod Bethel-Thompson hit DelVon Hardaway for a 41-yard touchdown. The game remained tied 7-7 at halftime.

Two minutes into the third quarter, the Blues struck again; this time running-back Matthew Colburn II ran for a 62-yard touchdown to put the Blues back up 14-7. With under three minutes left in the third quarter, the Blues tried to extend their lead, but the Aviators special teams blocked the field goal to keep the game at 14-7. In the fourth quarter, Bethel-Thompson found Kent Shelby II for a 19-yard touchdown to tie the game 14-14.

Blues kicker Jonathan Barnes kicked a 38-yard field goal to give the Blues a 17-14 lead with under two minutes left. The Aviators quickly moved up the field to give their kicker Toshiki Sato a chance to tie the game with one second left. He made the field goal to send the game to its first overtime 17-17.

In overtime, the Blues went three and out and punted the ball to Mathew Sexton, who then took it to the house for 85-yards to give the Aviators a 23-17 win and improve to 2-0 while the Blues are 1-1.


Conquerors 17, Alphas 22

For most of the first quarter, the game was scoreless until Conquerors quarterback Kevin Anderson threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Vinny Papale. Papale did seem to push off, but no penalty was called, and the Conquerors were up 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Alphas responded as J.T Barrett connected to his tight end Bug Howard for a 52-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good, and Alphas trailed 7-6. With under two minutes left in the second quarter, the Conquerors extended their lead 14-6 on a two-yard touchdown run by Jordan Salima. With under a minute left, J.T Barrett connected to Kam Williams, who fought off several Conquerors players before extending his arm as the ball crossed the goal-line for a 27-yard touchdown.

The extra point was no good, and the Alphas trailed 14-12. A field goal by Conquerors kicker Matt Mengal extended the teams lead 17-12 at halftime. Kevin Anderson was a perfect 8-8 for 144-yards and one touchdown. The Conquerors changed quarterbacks to start the second half with Justin McMillan in.

Momentum changed hands at the second half when Alphas running-back Brian Burt ran for a five-yard touchdown to put the Alphas up 19-17. The Alphas would kick a field and go up 22-17 heading into the fourth quarter. The Conquerors did put Anderson back in, but it was not enough, and the Conquerors fell to the Alphas 22-17. The Alphas are now 1-1 while the Conquerors are 0-2.


Generals 18, Jousters 15

Jousters kicker Ricky Aguayo kicked a 33-yard field goal to give the team a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Generals running-back Paul Terry put the Generals on top 7-3 with a one-yard rushing touchdown. Aguayo would kick a 37-yard field goal to make it a one-point game as the first half ended with the Generals leading 7-6.

In the third quarter, Aguayo put the Jousters in the lead 9-7 with a 50-yard field. On the next possession for the Jousters, Aguayo made his fourth field of the day, this time for 41-yards to make it a 12-7 Jousters lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Aguayo made his fifth field goal of the night, this time a 48-yarder to extend the Jousters lead 15-7. The Generals cut the Jousters lead 15-10 on a 25-yard field goal by Lirim Hajrullahu. After a turnover by Jousters running-back Chris Nelson, the Generals took advantage of it when Generals quarterback Bryan Scott connected with Jordan Suell to give the Generals the lead 16-15. The Generals converted a two-point play to make it a three-point game 18-15.

On the next possession, Jousters quarterback Alex Hornibrook threw an interception to Channing Stribling with under a minute left. After spending all of their timeouts, the Jousters got the ball back. However, they ran out of time and fell to the Generals 18-15. The Generals are now 2-0 on the season while the Jousters are 0-2.

Next Tuesday, November 10th, the Jousters will look to get their first win of the season against the Alphas at 8 pm on FS1. On Wednesday, November 11th, the Conquerors will also look to get its first win of the season against the Aviators at 3 pm. That game will not be televised. In the last game at 8 pm on FS1, the Generals will look to remain undefeated against the Blues. All games are played at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
