DC Defenders 31, Seattle Dragons 19
The DC Defenders and the Seattle Dragons kicked off the first game of the 2020 XFL season at Audi Field. First-time viewers were able to see the XFL’s kickoff, shortened time clock, shortened half-time, and a fast-paced game.
Defenders quarterback Cardale Jones was 16 of 26 throwing for 291-yards and two touchdown passes, including a trick play for 39-yards to tight-end Khari Lee. The Defenders special teams blocked a punt for a touchdown and a dominate Defenders defense picked off Dragons quarterback Brandon Silvers two times.
Silvers finished the day going 21-40 throwing for 217-yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Dragons wide receiver Austin Proehl had a day with five receptions for 88-yards and two touchdowns. Trey Williams also had four receptions for 2-yards and a touchdown.
Houston Roughnecks 37, Los Angeles Wildcats 17
The last game for Saturday was the Houston Roughnecks against the Los Angeles Wildcats from TDECU Stadium. Roughnecks quarterback PJ Walker went 23-39 throwing 272-yards for four touchdowns and one interception. Walker’s receivers Cam Phillips, Kahlil Lewis, Sam Mobley, and James Butler each caught a touchdown pass from Walker and combined for twelve receptions for 171-yards. Nick Holley also had a great game himself with four receptions for fifty yards. The Roughnecks defense finished the night with five sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
The Wildcats were without their starting quarterback Josh Johnson with a thigh injury, and Charles Kanoff got the start. Kanoff finished the night going 21-40 for 214 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Kanoff also rushed for a twenty-one-yard rushing touchdown. Nelson Spruce led the Wildcats in receiving yards with eleven receptions for 103-yards. Jordan Smallwood had three receptions for twenty-eight yards and caught the only touchdown from Kanoff. The Wildcats defense only got to Walker one time and intercepted Walker once.
