Caleb Taylor isn’t just another student attending Stockton University. He is on a mission to serve others. Taylor, a Public Affairs Officer for the Stockton Student Veteran Organization, has been active in SVO for two and half years. Why did he decided to join SVO? Taylor said “I decided to join because at the time there was a large number of infantry Marines in the SVO and that’s what I am too, so it seemed meant to be.”
SVO is a social organization for student veterans as well as nonveteran students at Stockton. There mission is to make veterans transition to college life as smooth as possible. “Our goals are to build bridges between the student veterans population and the rest of the Stockton community, in the hopes of bettering both ourselves and our community.” Taylor also added that “Stockton is incredibly helpful towards the SVO. Everyone we ever encounter wants to lend a helping hand to our student veterans, as a result, we are able to do things that other clubs with similar resources can’t. For example, our wrestling event was a huge success in terms of turnout, and that would not have been possible were it not for the support from a variety of places on campus.”
What has SVO meant to Taylor? Taylor said “It is tremendously rewarding to be part of SVO. For me, the SVO allowed me to more fully enjoy the college experience, as well as more fully take advantage of all that Stockton offers (which is quite a bit). Whether you’re a veteran looking to meet some like minded individuals, or you’re a traditional student looking to make friends, or you feel like you want to make a difference in a veteran’s life, the SVO is absolutely the place for you.”
