The Boston Pride were looking to sweep the Metropolitan Riveters Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated at the Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, MA.

Boston got on the board two minutes and thirty-three seconds in the first period as Jenna Rheault shot the puck that deflected off of Carlee Toews to put the Pride up 1-0. Carlee Toews was credited with the goal, and Jenna Rheault assisted in Toews’s goal.

Boston then went on the power play after Riveters Rebecca Morse was called for hooking. The Pride then took advantage of the power play as Tori Sullivan passed a Riveters defender and faked out the goalie to score an open net goal to extend the Pride’s lead 2-0. Boston took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the end of the first period.

Thirteen minutes and forty-five seconds into the second period, the Riveters Kendall Cornine headed to the penalty box for body checking, putting the Pride on another power play. Boston’s Mallory Souliotis fired the puck that found an opening under the Riveters goalie to extend Boston’s lead 3-0. Less than two minutes later, the Riveters would cut the Pride’s lead 3-1 on a lone goal by Kendall Cornine. Late into the third period, the Riveters Kiira Dosdall headed to the penalty box for body checking, putting Boston on another power play. With less than a minute remaining in the second period, the Pride’s Lexie Laing squeezed the puck past Riveters goalie Sam Walther to increase the Pride’s lead 4-1 at the end of the second period. Tori Sullivan and Briana Mastel assisted in Laing’s goal.

Five minutes and twenty-six seconds into the third period, McKenna Brand passed the puck to Jillian Dempsey, who then scored with the backhand shot to further Boston’s lead 5-1. McKenna Brand and Lexi Bender assisted with Dempsey’s goal.

The Riveters did not give up, and they began to chip away at Boston’s lead halfway through the third period when Brooke Avery scored as Kate Leary, and Tatiana Shatalova assisted with Avery’s goal to pull within three at 5-2. After Boston’s Lexi Bender headed to the penalty box for cross-checking, the Riveters were going on the power play. Metropolitan would capitalize on the power play as Madison Packer went around the goal net and slid the puck under Pride’s goalie Lovisa Selander to pull the Riveters within two at 5-3. That was as close as the Riveters would get to the Boston Pride as the Boston Pride defeated the Metropolitan Riveters 5-3.

Both Metropolitan and Boston were even in total shots at forty-six each. Boston Pride’s goalie Lovisa Selander made forty-three saves out of forty-six, allowing three goals while Metropolitan goalie Sam Walther made forty-one saves out of forty-six, allowing five goals.

The three stars of the game were Boston forward Jillian Dempsey, who scored one goal, Boston defender Mallory Souliotis who also had one goal, and Boston forward Tori Sullivan, who had one goal and one assist. Boston remains undefeated with a record of seven wins and no losses while the Riveters record is now one win and four losses.

Boston will return to the Warrior Ice Arena November 16th against the Buffalo Beauts while Metropolitan won’t return to action until November 30th against the Boston Pride.
