The Boston Pride headed to the Danbury Ice Arena for game two against the Connecticut Whale Sunday afternoon. The Pride were looking to remain undefeated and improve their record to 15-0. The Whale’s are still searching for their first win of the season after coming so close to ending the Pride’s undefeated streak in a shootout loss.
The Pride did not waste any time in the first period a minute and thirty-six seconds into the game as Lexie Laing scored to put the Pride up 1-0 with an assist from Taylor Wasylk. Nine minutes and thirty-six seconds later, the Pride added to their lead 2-0 on a goal by Emily Fluke with an assist from Taylor Wasylk. The Pride led 2-0 at the end of the first period.
Sixteen seconds into the third period, the Pride increased their lead 3-0 as McKenna Brand scored with an assist from Jillian Dempsey. Seven minutes and fifty-five seconds later, the Pride added another goal 4-0 this time a shorthand goal from Lexie Laing. With under two minutes remaining in the second period, the Whale’s finally got on the scoreboard as Hanna Beattie cut the Pride’s lead 4-1 with an assist from Kayla Meneghin. The Pride led 4-1 as the second period ended.
Despite having a 4-1 lead, the Pride knew they couldn’t relax at any given time, or else the Whale’s would make a comeback. Three minutes and four seconds into the third period, the Pride’s Jillian Dempsey scored to make it a 5-1 Pride lead with assists from Christina Putigna and Kaleigh Fratkin. The Whale’s managed to get another goal from Sarah Schwenzfeier to cut the Pride’s lead 5-2 with an assist from Sarah Hughson. The Pride went on the power play fourteen minutes and twenty-one seconds on a hooking call against Kendra Broad. Less than two minutes later, the Pride added another goal by Tori Sullivan to make it a 6-2 game. With a minute remaining in the game, the Pride added one more goal from Emily Fluke with an assist from Lexie Laing to give the Boston Pride a 7-2 win over the Connecticut Whale.
The Pride controlled this game from the start. The Pride had fifty-four shots on goal, and the Whale’s had thirty shots on goal. Boston Pride goalie Victoria Hanson stopped twenty-eight of thirty shots allowing two goals, and Whale’s goalie Brooke Wolejko made forty-seven of fifty-four saves allowing seven goals.
The Pride will now head to the Northtown Center for two games against the Buffalo Beauts Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 1 pm. The Whale’s will have next weekend off and will return to the ice on January 11th against the Metropolitan Riveters at the ProSkate Arena.
