Boston Pride dominate Metropolitan Riveters 8-3

The Metropolitan Riveters welcomed the undefeated Boston Pride to the ProSkate Ice Arena Saturday night, looking to end Boston’s unbeaten streak. These two teams met last weekend at the Warrior Ice Arena where the Riveters fell to the Pride 5-2.

The Pride took a 1-0 lead nine minutes and fourteen seconds into the first period as Christina Putigna scored with McKenna Brand assisting Putigna’s goal. Two minutes and nine seconds later, the Riveters would tie the game 1-1 on a goal by Kendall Cornine with Mallory Rushton assisting Cornine’s goal. Three minutes and ten seconds later, the Pride would regain the lead on a goal by Tori Sullivan to make it 2-1 with Alyssa Wohlfeiler assisting Sullivan’s goal. The Pride led the Riveters 2-1 at the end of the first period.

The Pride would then extend the lead 3-1 thirty-five seconds into the second period as Jillian Dempsey scored with Mary Parker and Christina Putigna assisting Dempsey’s goal. Six minutes and twenty-one seconds later, the Pride’s McKenna Brand scored to make it a 4-1 Pride lead with Jillian Dempsey assisting Brand’s goal. One minute and eighteen seconds later, the Riveters cut the Pride’s lead in half on a goal by Kate Leary with an assist from Madison Packer to make it a 4-2 Pride lead. Less than a minute later, The Pride’s Jillian Dempsey scored her second goal of the game to put the Pride back up by three goals 5-2 with an assist from McKenna Brand.

The Pride were not done putting points on the board as they increased their lead 6-2 on a goal by Alyssa Wohlfeiler with Mary Parker and Emily Fluke assisting Wohlfeiler’s goal. The Riveters didn’t help themselves when Cailey Hutchison was called for cross-checking, putting the Pride on the power play. The Pride’s Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored her second goal of the game on the power play to make it a 7-2 lead with Emily Fluke assisting Wohlfeiler’s goal. The Riveters would get one back on a goal by Kendall Cornine to cut the Pride’s lead 7-3. With less than two minutes left in the second period, the Pride’s Mary Parker scored to make it an 8-3 lead with Alyssa Wohlfeiler assisting Parker’s goal. The Pride led 8-3 at the end of the second period.

The third period saw both the Pride and the Riveters commit seven penalties each. However, the Riveters could not capitalize on any of the power plays. The Boston Pride defeated the Metropolitan Riveters 8-3 to extend their undefeated winning streak to eleven.

The Pride won the shots on goal total with thirty-three to the Riveters thirty-one. The Pride were one for ten on the power play while the Riveters were zero for thirteen. Boston Pride goalie Victoria Hanson made twenty-seven of thirty saves allowing three goals and backup goalie Christina England made one save. Riveters goalie Sam Walther made seventeen of twenty-five saves, allowing eight goals and backup goalie Dana Demartino with eight saves.

The Riveters will now travel to the Danbury Ice Arena to take on the Connecticut Whale Sunday at 1:30 pm. The Boston Pride’s next game will be on December 21st against the Buffalo Beauts.
