The Boston Pride returned to the Warrior Ice Arena Saturday night to take on the Metropolitan Riveters. The Pride are the only remaining undefeated team in the NWHL. The last time the Pride took to the ice was last Saturday in an 8-0 win over the Connecticut Whale.
There was no score early in the first period until the Riveters scored at ten minutes and twenty-two seconds. Kate Leary put the Riveters in the lead 1-0. Three minutes and two seconds later, the Pride would tie the game 1-1 on a goal by Alyssa Wohlfeiler with Mary Parker and Emily Fluke assisting Wohlfeiler’s goal. With a minute remaining in the first period, the Pride would take a 2-1 lead on a goal by Mary Parker with Alyssa Wohlfeiler and Emily Fluke assisting Parker’s goal. The Pride would head to the locker room with a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.
Nine minutes and fifty-two seconds into the second period, the Riveters tied the game up 2-2 on goal by Kate Leary, her second of the game with Anna Keys assisting Leary’s goal. The Pride would regain the lead fifteen minutes and forty-three seconds in the second period as Emily Fluke scored to give the Pride a 3-2 lead. Both Mallory Souliotis, and Jillian Dempsey assisted Fluke’s goal. The Pride led 3-2 at the end of the second period.
The Pride would extend their lead 4-2 two minutes and fifty-six seconds in the third period on a goal by Jillian Dempsey with Christina Putigna, and McKenna Brand assisting Dempsey’s goal. Five minutes and forty-five seconds later, the Pride would put the game away as McKenna Brand scored to give the Pride a 5-2 lead. Jillian Dempsey and Christina Putigna assisted Brand’s goal. The Boston Pride would go on to defeat the Metropolitan Riveters 5-2 to remain undefeated with ten wins and zero losses.
The Pride dominated the shots on goal total with forty-three to the Riveters twenty-three. The Pride went zero for five on the power play while the Riveters were zero for three. Boston Pride goalie Lovisa Selander made twenty-one of twenty-three saves allowing two goals while Riveters goalie Sam Walther made thirty-eight of forty-three saves allowing five goals.
The three stars of the game were Pride forward Emily Fluke with one goal and two assists, Pride forward Mary Parker with one goal and one assist, and Pride forward Jillian Dempsey with one goal and two assists.
Boston Pride will play the Metropolitan Riveters next Saturday at 7 pm at the ProSkate Ice Arena in South Brunswick Township, New Jersey. The Riveters will travel to the Danbury Ice Arena Sunday afternoon to take on the Connecticut Whale.
