Bushiroad, the entertainment company and owners of New Japan Pro Wrestling announced this afternoon Japan time that they have acquired World Wonder Ring Stardom, the all-women’s wrestling league.
World Wonder Ring Stardom is regarded as one of the best women’s wrestling leagues in the world that has featured top talents such as the current AEW Women’s champion Riho, AEW wrestler Bea Priestley, WWE Kairi Sane, NXT Io Shirai, Impact Wrestling Tessa Blanchard and more.
At the press conference today, Bushiroad subsidiary Kix Road will change its name to Bushiroad Fight CO. Also announced was the first big show for Stardom, which will take place on April 29, 2020 at Tokyo’s Ota Ward Gym. They will also run fourteen shows at the Korakuen Hall and make an appearance in the United States at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, on December 7th and 8th of this year.
World Wonder Ring Stardom will continue to run as a separate promotion and not merge with New Japan Pro Wrestling as many expected. Rossy Ogawa, the founder of World Wonder Ring Stardom, will still be the CEO of Stardom under the new acquisition by Bushiroad.
World Wonder Ring Stardom was founded in September of 2010 by former JDStar promoter Rossy Ogawa, former wrestler Fuka Kakimoto and wrestler Nanae Takahashi.
