On Thursday night, Clint Bowyer dropped a bombshell announcing that he would retire after 16 years in Cup Series competition after the 2020 season. Bowyer said he will transition to broadcasting duties full-time with FOX Sports. Bowyer is currently in eleventh place in the Round of 12 playoffs with one race to go before the cut down to eight drivers.

Bowyer’s role increased with FOX Sports this year, calling some Truck and Xfinity races along with providing commentary during the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series when racing came to a halt due to the pandemic.
Bowyer has been racing for Stewart-Haas Racing since 2017 after Tony Stewart retired after the 2016 season. Since joining Stewart-Haas, Bowyer has two wins at Michigan and Martinsville in 2018, 24 top-five finishes, 57 top-ten finishes, and two poles. Before that, Bowyer raced for Richard Childress Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing, and HScott Motorsports.
Bowyer’s best season came with Michael Waltrip Racing in 2012, winning three-races, ten top-five finishes, 23 top-ten finishes, and finish runner-up in the championship standings to Brad Keselowski. In his 16-year Cup Series career, Bowyer made 536 starts, ten wins, 82 top-five finishes, 224 top-ten finishes, and four poles.
It is unknown at this time who will drive the No. 14 Ford Mustang next year, but many speculate that Chase Briscoe will get the nod to drive the car in 2021. Bowyer will look to get into the Round of 8 playoffs this Sunday for the Bank of America Roval 400 from Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval at 2:30 pm on NBC.
