On Wednesday, the WWE released Drake Maverick and several other wrestlers in what WWE is calling it a cost-cutting move due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maverick, whose real name is James Michael Curtin, came to the WWE in 2017 after spending five years in TNA as Rockstar Spud. He would capture the TNA X-Division title two-times and appear in the TNA British Boot Camp series. Maverick put out an emotional video on his Twitter account, thanking everyone.
“There’s a lot of people I’m not gonna get a chance to say goodbye to that I really loved, really cared about,” he said. “… If these are the last three matches I have, I just want everybody watching at home to know that you’ll have my all. You’ll have everything.”

Since working for WWE in 2017, Maverick has been a manger to AOP, a 205 General Manager, and a six-time WWE 24/7 champion.
Like many wrestlers who were released Wednesday, Maverick is a fun wrestler to watch and will bounce back like the rest of them and will have plenty of options out there. I think Maverick could end up heading back to Impact Wrestling or join AEW, ROH, and NWA.
