Emily Fluke’s two goals help Boston Pride defeat Metropolitan Riveters 7-2

The Boston Pride were looking to remain undefeated as they took on the Metropolitan Riveters Saturday night at the Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, MA.
Boston would score the first goal of the game late in the first period at seventeen minutes and seven seconds when McKenna Brand passed the puck to Kaleigh Fratkin, who then shot the puck past Riveters goalie Sam Walther to put the Pride up 1-0. McKenna Brand assisted in Fratkin’s goal. Seventeen seconds later, the Pride would take a 2-0 lead as Mary Parker passed the puck to Alyssa Wohlfeiler, who then passed to Emily Fluke and fired the puck at the top right corner of the net and scored. Alyssa Wohlfeiler and Mary Parker assisted in Fluke’s goal. The Pride headed to the locker room with a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.
Four minutes and twenty-eight seconds into the second period, the Pride would extend their lead 3-0 as Emily Fluke passed the puck to McKenna Brand, who shot the puck at the top right corner and into the net for the goal. Emily Fluke assisted in the Brand’s goal.
The Riveters would go on the power play and cut the Pride’s lead 3-1 when Kendall Cornine shot the puck past the Pride’s goalie Lovisa Selander and into the top right corner of the net to score. Mallory Rushton and Rebecca Morse assisted in Cornine’s goal. Boston would then get that goal back less than a minute later when Alyssa Wohlfeiler’s backhand pass to Emily Fluke, who rocketed the puck into the net and put Boston back up by three goals at 4-1. This was Fluke’s second goal of the game as Alyssa Wohlfeiler, and Mary Parker assisted in Fluke’s goal. The Pride headed to the locker room with a 4-1 lead at the end of the second period.
One minute and nineteen-seconds into the third period, the Pride continued to extend their lead as Mary Parker weaved around a couple of Riveters defenders and shot the puck into the upper right corner of the net and scored to give the Pride a 5-1 lead. Tori Sullivan assisted in Parker’s goal.
The Pride then went on the power play as Riveters Kate Leary was called for tripping. The Pride took advantage of the five on four power-play as Carlee Toews rebounded the puck and lifted it over the goalie to extend Boston’s lead 6-1. Lexie Laing and Kaleigh Fratkin assisted in Toews’s goal. Metropolitan then cut Boston’s lead 6-2 on a lone goal by Katie Leary.
With less than a minute remaining of the game, Boston would add one more goal when McKenna Brand passed the puck to Christina Putigna, who lifted the puck over the goalie to put the Pride up 7-2. McKenna Brand and Jillian Dempsey assisted in Putigna’s goal. The final horn sounded, and the Boston Pride defeated the Metropolitan Riveters 7-2.
The three stars of the game were Boston forward McKenna Brand, who had one goal and two assists, Boston forward Mary Parker also had one goal and two assists and Boston forward Emily Fluke, who had two goals and one assist.
Boston Pride goalie Lovisa Selander made twenty-nine saves out of thirty-one, allowing two goals while the Riveters goalie Sam Walther made fifty-four save out of sixty-one. The Pride had sixty-one shots total while Metropolitan had thirty-one.
These two teams will go at it again Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm on the NWHL’s Twitch channel from the Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, MA.
