After a come from behind 4-3 win in overtime by the Boston Pride Saturday night. The Boston Pride returned to the Northtown Center Sunday afternoon, looking to sweep the weekend series against the Buffalo Beauts.
As the first period got underway, the Pride immediately took control of the game. The Pride jumped to a 1-0 lead seven minutes twenty-six seconds on a goal by Jillian Dempsey with assists from Kaleigh Fratkin and Christina Putigna. Three minutes later, the Pride extended their lead 2-0 on a goal by Christina Putigna with an assist from Lauren Kelly.
Three minutes later, the Pride committed a penalty by Kaleigh Fratkin for cross-checking, putting the Beauts on the power play. The Beauts capitalize on the power to cut the Pride’s lead 2-1 on a goal by Corinne Buie with assists from Marie-Jo Pelletier and Taylor Accursi.
The Beauts then committed their second penalty of the game this time on Becki Bowering for body-checking. The Pride took advantage of the power play as Jillian Dempsey scored her second goal of the game to put the Pride’s lead back to two 3-1 with assists from McKenna Brand and Christina Putigna. The Pride remained in the lead 3-1 as the first period came to a close.
While neither team scored in the second period, the action was still intense as both teams committed penalties. The Pride went on the power play five times while the Beauts were on the power play four times, and neither team couldn’t take advantage of them. The Pride remained in the lead 3-1 at the end of the second period.
The physicality in this game took a toll on both teams. The Pride’s Lauren Kelly committed a major penalty and was ejected after checking from behind Iveta Klimasova, who was down for several minutes before getting back to her feet. The Pride’s defense did enough to keep the Beauts from scoring. The Pride extended their lead 4-1 fifteen minutes and eight seconds on a goal by Taylor Wasylk with an assist from Marisa Raspa.
The Beauts would go on another power play at seventeen minutes and thirty-six seconds on an interference call against Pride forward Marisa Raspa. With less than a minute left in the game, the Beauts cut the Pride’s lead 4-2 on a goal by Iveta Klimasova with an assist from Sara Bustad. The final horn whistled and the Boston Pride defeated the Buffalo Beauts 4-2 to remain undefeated at 13-0.
The Pride won the shots on goal total with thirty-four the Beauts twenty. Pride goalie Victoria Hanson made eighteen of twenty saves, allowing two goals while Beauts goalie Tiffany Hsu made thirty of thirty-four saves allowing four goals. The three stars of the game were Beauts forward Corinne Buie with one goal, Beauts goalie Tiffany Hsu with thirty saves and Pride forward Jillian Dempsey with two goals.
The Pride will remain on the road next weekend as they will visit the Danbury Ice Arena to take on the Connecticut Whale Saturday at 3:30 pm and Sunday at 1:30 pm. The Beauts will remain home as they welcome the Metropolitan Riveters Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 1 pm from the Northtown Center.
