The 28-year-old from Carrollton, SC, spent two years with the Giants. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. In 2020, he played eighteen games with a 0-2 record along with a 9.82 ERA in 14.2 innings, two saves, allowing 17 hits, 16 runs scored, two home runs, seven walks, and 15 strikeouts. In 2019, he was 5-1 with a 3.58 ERA in 27.2 innings, allowing 19 hits, 11 runs scored, three home runs, 15 walks, and 20 strikeouts.
In exchange for Coonrod, the Phillies traded Carson Ragsdale, a fourth-round pick by the Phillies in the 2020 MLB Draft. Ragsdale played college at South Florida. His senior season was cut short due to the pandemic. During his time with the Bulls, his record was 2-1 with a 3.75 ERA in 50.1 innings. He played 29 games with one save and 77 strikeouts. He has also played first base and batted .224 with four doubles, three home runs, and six RBIs. Ragsdale was supposed to play for the Williamsport Crosscutters, but the season never took place due to the pandemic.
Shortly after the trade, the Giants announced that Ragsdale will play for the Augusta GreenJackets of the Lower-A South Atlantic League. The Phillies will open their Spring Training next month with the first game on February 27th against the Toronto Blue Jays. The regular-season starts April 1st against the Atlanta Braves.
