By Michael Heilman

The Metropolitan Riveters finished their weekend series against the Minnesota Whitecaps at the ProSkate Arena, looking to split the series after getting shutout by the Whitecaps 2-0 Saturday night.

There was not much action in the first period the only penalty committed was a cross-checking call against Riveters forward Kelly Nash with under three minutes to play in the first period. The Riveters stopped the Whitecaps offense and prevented Minnesota from scoring. The game remained scoreless 0-0 at the end of the first period.

Five minutes and forty-seven seconds into the second period, a body-checking call against Riveters defenseman Rebecca Morse sent the Whitecaps on the power play. Two seconds later, Nina Rodgers scored the power-play goal to put the Whitecaps up 1-0. Less than a minute later, the Riveters tied the game 1-1 on a goal by Kate Leary with assists from Madison Packer and Kendall Cornine. The Riveters committed two penalties in the second period, and their defense prevented the Whitecaps from regaining the lead. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the second period.

Metropolitan began to distance themselves six minutes and six seconds as Colleen Murphy scored to put the Riveters back in the lead 2-1 with an assist from Madison Packer. The Whitecaps created opportunities for themselves to get back into the game. With a minute left in the game, the Whitecaps pulled goalie Amanda Leveille for the extra attacker. The Riveters with thirty-two seconds left put the game away on an empty-net goal from Madison Packer to give the Metropolitan Riveters a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Whitecaps.

The Riveters had thirty-seven shots on goal and the Whitecaps at sixty-one shots. Riveters goalie Sam Walther made sixty of sixty-one saves, allowing one goal and Whitecaps goalie Amanda Leveille made thirty-four of thirty-six saves allowing two goals.
