Impact Wrestling, also known as TNA Wrestling from 2002 to 2017, was acquired by Anthem Sports and Entertainment in 2017. Impact Wrestling has gone through numerous changes over the years but a lot of them didn’t help the company grow. Impact Wrestling lost a lot of key wrestlers who helped them grow in the early years like A.J Styles, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, and Eric Young. Now, Impact is once again rebranding after a failed merger with Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling last year. Anthem has made major changes to the company like moving its main headquarters from Nashville to Toronto, the main headquarters of Anthem Sports and Entertainment.
Last year, Impact Wrestling held its annual “Bound for Glory” pay-per-view at the Aberdeen Pavilion in Ottawa, Canada. They also spent weeks taping individual shows from the same arena in Ottawa. At this year’s Impact Wrestling pay-per-view Redemption, it was announced that Slammiversary would be held at the Rebel Complex in Toronto, Canada on July 22, 2018. This would be another pay-per-view held in Canada. Should Anthem Sports and Entertainment make Impact Wrestling an exclusive wrestling promotion in Canada?
The benefit of Impact Wrestling being a Canadian promotion is that they will have room to grow. The company would have live shows across Canada and if they want to have a show in the United States, it could be in Alaska. The promotion already has a ton of wrestlers who are from Canada like Austin Aries, Allie, Petey Williams, and broadcaster Don Callis. Featuring wrestlers who are from Canada could help the promotion grow. There are too many wrestling promotions in the United States with WWE being king and New Japan looking to establish a footprint in the United States while working with Ring of Honor along with other indie wrestling companies in the United States. Impact Wrestling has a chance to establish itself as a legitimate wrestling promotion in Canada.
