World Wrestling Entertainment announced on their website that they have come to terms on the release of Curtis Axel, real name Joseph Curtis Hennig, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig and grandson of WWE Hall of Famer Larry “The Axe” Hennig.
Hennig has been with the WWE for thirteen years starting in WWE’s developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling, now NXT and has won the WWE Intercontinental title once, and the WWE Raw Tag Team titles with partner Bo Dallas once.
Hennig debuted on the main roster in 2010 as a member of the Nexus. He then was sent back to NXT for repackaging. He returned to the main roster in 2013 as Curt Axel and was managed by Paul Heyman and later formed the tag team RybAxel. Axel then teamed with Damion Sandow to form the team of Axelmania and Macho Mandow. He would later join a stable called social outcast, followed by being a bodyguard to The Miz called Miztourage before settling with Bo Dallas as a tag team known as the B-Team.
Hennig now joins a long list of wrestlers who were released by WWE just a couple of weeks ago. He will have options as other wrestling companies will look to acquire his services. While many fans will more likely want Hennig in AEW, I think he will go in a different route and join either NWA, Impact Wrestling, ROH, MLW, or NJPW.
